2008 Hong Kong IMO Convention and EU Regulation 1257/2013 introduced a strict and specific framework for the recycling of End-of-Life-Cycle Vessels. In accordance with Article 32 of Regulation (EU) 1257/2013, Inventory of Hazardous Materials (IHM) obligation applies to existing ships until 31 December 2020, to new ships by 31 December 2018 at the latest and to ships for recycling from 31 December 2016.
Inventory of Hazardous Materials was introduced to ensure the safety of all those potentially exposed to hazardous materials. This includes workers in shipyards, ships and recycling shipyards. Hazardous materials commonly encountered on vessels include asbestos, PCBs, TBTs, ODS and microbiological contaminants.
We provide Approved HazMat Expert services by undertaking preparation of Inventory of Hazardous Materials (IHM), whether it concerns a new building, an existing ship or a ship bound to recycling, covering all the required work (study, sampling, sampling, inventory establishment). survey can take place while the vessel is at sea or in port and our surveying teams are able to meet and leave the vessel at most ports internationally.
In addition, we provide Waste Trans – Boundary Movement Administration services, for the ships bound to recycling, undertaking all the work as follows:
- Establishment of Inventory of Hazardous Materials (IHM),
- Administration, Coordination and Supervision of involved parties to carry out the required audits
- Communication, supervision, coordination and Administration of procedures with the involved parties (Recycling Facility, Insurance Company, Towing Company).
